New England | Day Three

Tuesday morning we decided to sleep in a little bit and then head over to the Boston LDS Temple. It was so pretty and after all of the cute New England churches we'd seen, we could definitely see how they chose to use similar architecture for the temple. We didn't end up doing a session, but we're still happy we got to see it.

Our next stop was Walden Pond in nearby Concord. It was soooo pretty and peaceful there! We loved seeing the little replica of Henry David Thoreau's cabin and definitely couldn't imagine living alone in that tiny thing for two whole years. My favorite thing about Walden Pond was all of the old people out for their morning walks along the trails. Now I have a goal that someday when we're old and retired we'll live up there and go for our walk everyday at Walden Pond haha.

We then drove about 2 1/2 hours from Concord to Hartford, Connecticut. We really loved Hartford. It felt so calm after the craziness of Boston and the downtown area was so pretty. We went and walked around the Connecticut State Capitol building which was very cool. It looked like a castle or a cathedral!

Our next stop was Mark Twain's house. We were too cheap to take the tour of the inside, but it was still fun to see the outside. We were both surprised by how big it was!

About a half hour away was the Hartford LDS Temple so we thought we'd drive by and see that too. It was just dedicated last year so it definitely looked brand new compared to the Boston Temple, which was dedicated in 2000.

After that quick stop we drove south to New Haven, Connecticut to see Yale University. I'm a big Gilmore Girls fan so I couldn't help but think about Rory Gilmore while we were there haha. We checked out the visitor's center to learn some Yale history and then walked around the old campus a bit.

Our final stop was the Yale Art Gallery which I loved. They had so many great works of art and the building itself was beautiful. I had fun showing Zach his first Van Goghs, Degas, Monets, and Peruginos. My little art historian heart was very happy.

I really wanted to see more of the art gallery, but by that point I was starting to get sick and my body was just completely exhausted. So we decided to end things a little early and get back on the road to Boston. We drove out to Winthrop, Massachusetts where our final Airbnb near the airport was located. It was right on the water and our host had everything set up perfectly for us. The bed we slept on was the most comfortable on the whole trip. We wish we could have slept in it longer! But we had a 5:00 am flight the next morning so we ended up having to wake up at 2:30 am. Yuck.

And, of course, we didn't even end up leaving Boston until 9:30 anyways because there was a problem with our plane. So you can just imagine how exhausted we were by the time we got home to Houston. We were very happy to be home and to see our baby.

Finley did amazing while we were away and had a lot of fun with Grandma and Grandpa. She didn't want to leave their house! We're so grateful we were able to go on this trip by ourselves. Thanks again Mom and Dad.

We sure had a great time on this trip and made some great memories together. Hopefully it won't be another four or five years before we do something like this again!
